Three Ways to Improve your Morning Routine

Morning routines are important to a vibrant and joyful day. Yet we head straight to the scroll button on our phones or scurry around our living quarters. Want to start your day off with some edge? Read this article on three ways to improve your morning routine!

When I finished section hiking the Appalachian Trail it was a total reset when it came to morning routines.

After all when hiking the trail the routine was simple. We woke up, ate, let the dog out of the van, fed the dog, drove or walked to the trailhead, and hiked. A lot of mornings I even ditched my decade plus meditation practice, due to the fact that I was hiking in the woods all day. I had an eight hour walking meditation in front of me.

Thank you Universe for your abundance, no doubt!

Abundance in your morning routine.

Fast forward to life off the trail. Alarm clocks reappeared, as did not rising with the sun. And I knew I had to create a new morning routine. It took a few months and a bit of trial and error but I’m now at a space where I LOVE my morning routine. I literally think and believe it to be a game changer in how I go about the rest of my day!

But it’s not easy. And takes some tweaking. Trust me that it’s worth it. A strong morning routine will bring you joy, abundance, and a vibrant hop to your step even on “crappy days.”

A great morning routine won't have you putting your head under the covers!

A great morning routine won't have you putting your head under the covers.

Here are three ways to INSTANTLY improve your Morning Routine!

  1. Drink 24 ounces of water within five minutes of waking up. It will provide you with hydration to start your day. We don’t drink enough water. This provides a bit of a “build up” to the potential water inefficiencies in the day.

  2. Wake before any of your kids or pets do. I know this is hard, and sometimes next to impossible to predict. But if you can have 15 minutes to yourself before anyone else that is a dependent in your house relies on your “services" you will be thankful. The distractions won’t be there and the rush will not be felt.

  3. Meditation/Breath-work.
New to meditation? Set your clock to two minutes. Close your eyes for two minutes and inhale through your nose to the word “So.” Exhale through your noise to the word “Hum.” Repeat for two minutes until your alarm sounds. Make sure it’s set to something sweet like a bird chirping or wind chimes too! Add 30 seconds every week until you get to the max amount of time you have.

Is that all I need to do for a morning routine?

Well of course there’s more. Do you have more time? Then you will have more opportunities!
But if you do these three things you will INSTANTLY improve a morning routine and improve your day. You will be hydrated, restful in the quiet few moments before your dependents and you begin your day, and you will have done meditation.

That’s a great and impactful shift. And EASY ones to make.
