Basketball Camp THINKTANK: Phase Ten

For the first nine phases of the Basketball Camp THINKTANK series head HERE and scroll down to the Basketball Camp Category!

This is the final post and recap from the 4th Annual and 2017 Free Kids Basketball Camp.

For those of you reading this blog for the first time or if you need a reminder the THINKTANK blogs are self starter projects that I am working on and building from the ground up.

I show you in phases the processes of my creations and activities and what is working and not working.

The goal is for you to be able to get better grasp on how to create things for this world, focus on people and purpose in your digital marketing, understand what can be turned into passion projects/side hustles/full on businesses, and ultimately you getting to create a lifestyle around fulfilling work that impacts the world in a positive way!

What started as an idea just a few years ago had its largest turnout and in my eyes best camp yet!

The day was a resounding success in my eyes for the vision we are trying to curate.  That vision is to give 100 Kids in Central Ohio a day they’ll never forget.  But in terms of the THINKTANK and to understand and know what else is possible for this is what I will focus in on.

Can the basketball camp become more than a passion project in 2018?

Currently the camp is a great experiential event for both kids and volunteers in the community that I live in.

It has also pushed my creative process in a positive direction and it’s clear there is a demand and need for its existence.

While I have gotten digital marketing business as a result from networks and relationships created by the basketball camp the camp itself breaks even.

We had some awesome in-kind and paid sponsors this year that make it worth it for all of us to do the camp but it is a break even and therefore a passion project as it relates directly to the camp.

The big question I will be examining over the next 90 days is potential partnerships to bring in larger scale sponsors to create revenue for the camp.

What happens if that occurs?

There might be higher expectations from those sponsors.  It would also require a different level of strategic thinking in terms of the interaction with the parents as they are the ones the sponsors will be interested in marketing towards.

It will also put us in a position to consider what type of businesses we are interested and not interested in having be paid sponsors.

For instance soda and fast food are aligned in my vision for the camp.

What if it is just a passion project?

Not all things in your life are meant to make money.  Sometimes there are bigger effects and reasons why you do stuff in life.

The camp won’t stop if it is just meant to be a passion project.  We will work just as hard each year to make it a special and truly unique experience for all those involved.

Remember when you are creating stuff that it goes well beyond the dollars and cents on the bottom line of a form or spreadsheet.

The 2017 REFUND Skills Basketball Camp was the best one yet.  We have learned and grown each year and gotten better with the process.  It’s a truly huge undertaking that hopefully has far reaching impact.

I can’t wait to get started on the 2018 version!
